Carol Hayes Talks with the Telegraph about working in the industry in the midst of LFW…

Carol Hayes

Carol Hayes, MD of Carol Hayes Management

Journalist and Business Woman Emma Sinclair, spoke to Carol Hayes this week on how she got into the industry and what led her to start the The Carol Hayes Management agency; now a well-known name in the Fashion, Beauty and Television world….

“For some, Carol’s name will ring a bell because she featured on the hit TV show Secret Millionaire last year. She left her Carol Hayes Agency in London’s Camden and spent eight days in East Glasgow’s Easterhouse Estate, a deprived area of the UK, where life expectancy is just 54. It’s an episode that moved me and ended with Carol helping a local children’s charity and a care home looking after people with early stage dementia, which her mother sadly suffered from.

Carol’s parents worked hard and “didn’t have much” but never expected anyone to help them. That ethic was passed onto her from an early age. She started working life at 13 with a Saturday job washing hair at a local salon. She recalls she was “pretty dreadful at it” and rarely received a tip – but it gave her some much needed pocket money.

At 16 she left school with one O-Level and started work in a clothes shop in Hampstead, north London. She had limited experience in retail and was a little rougher round the edges than some of the boutique customers, but Carol recalls how Shelley Parker, the shop owner, “took a gamble” and gave her a job. “Everyone,” she says, “should have a Mrs Parker in their life.” Read More Here.

Trend watch with Stylist Cassie Fitzpatrick

Cassie Fitzpatrick

Cassie Fitzpatrick

Currently working as trends editor at StylistPick and as a trends forecaster for WGSN, stylist Cassie Fitzpatrick is always on the lookout for the latest trends.

Cassie has also styled for some of the hottest photographers including David Bailey and Rankin, and regularly presents for weekly fashion blog, The Muse (www.themuse.tv).

With the fashion weeks fastly approaching, Cassie has joined us to give us a quick run down of some of her favourite trends coming to a store near you soon!

  • Want to stand out of the crowd this fashion week? Take a leaf out of bloggers style books and get eclectic! Clash your colours and confuse your prints. I’m taking my inspiration from the ultimate maximalism fashion icon, Iris Apfel!

  • I’ve harboured the biggest girl/style crush on Erin Wasson for far too long so I can’t wait to channel that effortless LA festival look which is key for S/S 13. Unfortunately the closest I’ll get to Coachella is Camden Crawl so I’ll be ditching the denim cut offs and low slung muscle vests in favour of something a little more subtle. Jewellery is a super simple way of working the trend. Big silver rings and layered turquoise pendants will lend you some of that ‘cooler than thou’ wasson tude. Also check out jewellery brand Mania Mania who have the look down to a fine art!

  • The biker jacker is one of those perennial style staples but for S.S 13 we see it getting it a bit of a facelift ladies and gents behold the ‘sleeveless biker’. Ok ok they are hardly reinventing the fashion wheel with this one but it did make its mark on the catwalks with everyone from Sportmax through to Unique is backing it as a key item. I fell in love with the acne version, unfortunately my credit card didn’t so I’ll be picking up a similar high street version from All Saints.
